We went to Vegas this weekend and had a blast. We only stayed out there for 24 hours. Not bad but a 6 hour flight each way is a pain.

W0ss has an interview
Written by William
Wednesday, 01 June 2005
So I have an interview on tuesday the 7th. Up in Boston at the Boston Medical Center, Should be an awesome place to work. A friend went there for an interview but decided he had a couple offer he wanted to persue. He said the position would be almost ideal for me. They are rolling our VOIP with cisco call manager and MCU's. All the nurses are getting Cisco 7920 phones. I am getting sick of working for a service provider. Were I work now I may work on 5 networks in a day or sometimes more. I don't have the oppurtunity to get to know any but the biggest clients that well. Hopefully I get the job and can get a better position.

Went to court for my speeding ticket.
Written by William
Tuesday, 24 May 2005
This is a really odd one. I went to the Wrentham district court for a speeding ticket. I went through the metal detector and it beeped. I said oh must be my belt(that set it off when I had jury duty). The guard then said cover the belt buckle with your hand and walk through. I covered it and then walked through and then stopped in front of it and shrugged my shoulders. The guard then said walk through faster and don't stop in front. I did as he asked and low and behold the metal detector did not go off. My first thought was good but then I realized how the heck can covering the metal with my hand and walking fast not cause the metal detector to go off.

Dual Wan and CCM
Written by William
Tuesday, 10 May 2005

Well the Dual WAN setup had some issues. We bought a Hawking router but it is pretty limited. If it is doing NAT it cannot do static routes. I had wanted it to route everything to the cisco. Since we have VLAN's we needed this. The only option was to run double NAT. It worked but I felt it added to much complexity to the design.

We setup PBR with icmp tracking. Basicly the cisco pings the default gateway and if it times out it set's the next hop to the dsl router. Problem being I haven't found a way to make it failover only after x poles of it being down. What is happening is the router is seeing the gateway down and sending traffic out the DSL and then 3 minutes later failing back over to the cable. This would happen a few times per day. Right now we are running over the DSL alone as it is much more stable than the cable.

I setup a CCM server within VMWARE it runs ok however I notice choppy voice even on calls on the LAN. The voice must be to much for the virtualization to handle. We are building the equipment up for the lab. We still need a good switch that can do QOS and also a CME capable router. We bought a DL380 to allow us to install Cisco Call Manager without having to change the registry or anything.

Ordered DSL
Written by William
Monday, 11 April 2005
I ordered DSL to go with our cable internet. Although lately the cable is a bit more stable sometimes it will bounce everyday for a week. I am looking at picking up a Linksys RV082. It supports dual wan and seems to be pretty neat. Although it is a bit pricey 250$ is not bad since it does do vpn termination as well.

So I found out the place I work is going to be outsourcing some stuff to India. Funny thing is other companies outsource stuff to us which we will in turn outsource to india. What happens when one day the first outsourcer skips the second and goes straight to india. Bah
